HC Deb 11 April 1984 vol 58 c249W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he plans further legislation to strengthen protection for the consumer against unregistered traders in the field of building improvement.

Mr. Trippier

I have been asked to reply.

The recent report of the Director General of Fair Trading on home improvements is still under consideration.

Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many representations he has received since 1 January 1984 with regard to shoddy and dangerous work in the building industry by unregistered traders.

Mr. Trippier

Since 1 January 1984 I have received six letters complaining about shoddy work in the building industry and none about dangerous work. One of these letters suggested traders should be registered.
