HC Deb 11 April 1984 vol 58 c221W
16. Mr. Canavan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many representations he has received about alleged toxic emissions in the Bonnybridge area; and what action he intends to take.

Mr. Ancram

My right hon. Friend has received a number of representations arising from reports of cattle illness in the Bonnybridge area.

Co-ordinated investigations made by my Department, environmental health departments, Forth valley health board and the University of Glasgow veterinary school have so far not identified any problems attributable to toxic emissions, or to illnesses in cattle which cannot be explained by well known causes. Further investigations by the Scottish agriculture colleges are in progress although unfortunately one of the farmers concerned has declined to give full co-operation. We shall continue to monitor the position carefully.
