HC Deb 10 April 1984 vol 58 c160W
Mr. Tom Cox

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many criminal prosecutions were awaiting trial in England and Wales on 31 March

Mr. Mellor

I understand from my noble Friend the Lord Chancellor that 21,800 cases which had been committed for trial were outstanding at the Crown court at 31 December 1983; corresponding information for 31 March 1984 is not yet available. Statistics are not collected centrally on the number of cases awaiting trial at magistrates' courts.
