HC Deb 10 April 1984 vol 58 c172W
Mr. Higgins

asked the Minister for the Civil Service how many cars used by or driven by the Civil Service are of engine capacity up to 1,000 cc, from 1,001 to 1,500 cc, from 1,501 to 2,000 cc, from 2,001 to 3,000 cc and from 3,001 to 4,500 cc.

Mr. Hayhoe

The size of engine in private cars driven by civil servants claiming motor mileage allowances is riot known as this information is not required for official purposes.

Information on engine sizes of official cars used by or driven by civil servants is not held centrally but based on Departments' figures. The numbers in each category are approximately:

Cubic capacity Number
Under 1,000 900
1,001 to 1,500 1,200
1,501 to 2,000 480
2,001 to 3,000 80
3,001 to 4,500 40

These figures include the Government car service and Ministers' cars but exclude Ministry of Defence vehicles for which information is obtainable only at disproportionate cost.
