HC Deb 09 April 1984 vol 58 cc130-1W
Mr. Terlezki

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many students from the Soviet Union over the past 10 years have come to study in British universities and colleges; for what period of time; which subjects they have studied; and from what parts of the Soviet Union they came.

Mr. Brooke

According to the best figures available, some 500 Soviet students have studied in British universities and colleges under the Anglo-Soviet cultural agreement since 1972, for periods of four to normally ten months. Their subjects of study were mainly scientific. The students came from all areas of the Soviet Union.
