§ Mr. Proctorasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied with the speed with which mental health review tribunal hearings considering section 3 applications under the Mental Health Act 1983 are taking place.
§ Mr. John Patten[pursuant to his reply, 3 April 1984, c. 491]: The doubling of opportunities to apply to a mental health review tribunal provided by the Mental Health Act 1983 and the new section 2 tribunals which must be heard within seven days of application have added considerably to the work load of tribunals. On average, section 3 cases are completed within three months of receipt of the application. We are monitoring the position and taking steps to keep delays to a minimum.
