HC Deb 09 April 1984 vol 58 c23W
Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if the Venice declaration remains the basis of Her Majesty's Government's Middle East policy; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Luce

The Foreign Ministers of the Ten issued a statement on the Middle East at their meeting on 27 March. Our policy towards the Arab-Israel dispute has consistently been to seek a negotiated settlement on the basis of two balanced principles, the right of Israel and other states in the area to exist in peace and security, and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. This has been made clear in successive statements by the Ten.
