HC Deb 09 April 1984 vol 58 c37W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many prisoners convicted for life are now serving sentences in Scottish prisons; and whether he will make a statement in relation to these prisoners after completing his consultation with the Parole Board.

Mr. Ancram

380 inmates are at present serving indeterminate sentences in Scottish penal establishments. As I indicated in my reply to my hon. Friend's questions on 28 February (Vol. 55, c.51) my right hon. Friend will make an announcement when his discussions on this matter with the Parole Board have been concluded.
