asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list the percentage of gross domestic product spent on health care by (a) France, (b) West Germany, (c) the United Kingdom and (d) the United States of America in 1981, 1982 and 1983.

The percentage of gross domestic product spent on health care in the United Kingdom in 1981 and 1982 was 6 per cent. and 5.9 per cent., respectively. A comparable figure for 1983 is not yet available. With regard to France, West Germany and the United States, I refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Holborn and St. Pancras (Mr. Dobson), in Volume 56 at columns583–84. OECD
