§ 48. Mr. Barronasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the latest figure for aid going to Ethiopia; and what proportion is going into the northern region for famine relief.
§ Mr. RaisonWe have not recently given development aid to Ethiopia. Humanitarian and food aid provided bilaterally over the last 12 months has been worth £3.7 million. Our share of 1983 European Community food aid is worth £1.8 million; and we are providing £14.75 million2W of Ethiopia's European development fund allocation. Ethiopia will benefit from new British contributions totalling £5 million for international refugee and relief assistance in Africa. £750,000 of Community emergency food aid and £400,000 of our relief aid contributions were responses to the situation in the north.
