§ Mr. Gordon Brownasked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) if he will publish the results of the survey into why young people on youth training schemes have left their places early;
(2) what is the average estimated cost of each mode A and mode B place on the youth training scheme in 1983–84; and what he estimates it to be in 1984–85.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonI shall reply to the hon. Member as soon as possible.
§ Mr. Gordon Brownasked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what factors he will take into consideration when he sets the new training allowance for young people on youth training scheme places;
(2) when he expects to announce the new training allowance for 1984–85 for youth training scheme trainees;
(3) what consultations he plans to have with trade unions and with youth training scheme trainees before he sets a new training allowance for 1984–85.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonWe expect to take decisions on the future level of the allowance for youth training scheme trainees after receiving the views of the Manpower Services Commission, which will be reviewing the matter in June. The commission includes representatives of trade unions and is advised by the Youth Training Board, which includes representatives of trades unions and young people. In deciding the level of the allowance we will take into account that the second year of the scheme will be essentially a period of consolidation, with particular attention being given to improving the quality of training. The level of the allowance will continue to reflect the value to the trainee of the training given.
§ Mr. Gordon Brownasked the Secretary of State for Employment what recent representations he has received on the level of the youth training scheme allowance.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonThe Government have received representations from members of Parliament, various organisations and individual members of the public.
