asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the Scottish prisons which provide lavatories in cells or access to toilets at night for prisoners.

Integral sanitation has so far been provided at Edinburgh prison on an experimental basis in 12 cells and in the 10-cell unit recently built at Peterhead prison. Night access by inmates to toilet facilities is available at the following penal establishments:

  • Castle Huntly Young Offenders' Institution
  • Cornton Vale Female Institution (except in 1 wing)
  • Dungavel Prison
  • Edinburgh Prison (dormitories only)
  • Glenochil Young Offenders' Institution
  • Low Moss Prison
  • Penninghame Prison
  • Shotts Prison
