HC Deb 06 April 1984 vol 57 c697W
Mr. Terlezki

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will estimate how much of the pre-1920 United Kingdom housing stock is in need of immediate repair; and what proportion could be repaired rather than demolished and replaced by new development.

Sir George Young

The English and Welsh house condition surveys of 1981 collected information about the amount of repairs required and analyses for pre-1919 housing are included in the reports which are available in the Library.

The appropriate action for housing which is in disrepair is a matter for decision in individual cases by owners or by local authorities.
