HC Deb 06 April 1984 vol 57 c699W
Mr. Hill

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give additional help to those disabled tenants who are banned from buying their purpose-built or specially adapted council dwellings.

Sir George Young

The Government were persuaded last year of the case for extending the right to buy non-sheltered dwellings adapted for the physically disabled. Clause 2 of the Housing and Building Control Bill as introduced would have provided for this; but the Bill was recently amended in another place, to provide for the continued exclusion from the right to buy of properties which have been the subject of certain major adaptations. The Government are now considering their response to that amendment.
