asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make it his policy to include in the optical prescription for single vision spectacles details of frame type, distance between lenses, eyesize, length of side, angle of side, headwidth, datum centre distance, decentration of lenses, form of lenses and lens material, and for bifocal spectacles details of type, size of segment,

segment top position and segment inset, which are at present provided by a dispensing optician; if he will make it his policy to ensure that all spectacles sold in the United Kingdom are issued against a prescription containing all these details; and if he will make a statement.
