§ Mr. Parryasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the recent visit of the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State to Liverpool.
§ Mr. HeseltineMy noble Friend paid a most successful visit to the Merseyside area on 3 April. He met members of regular units, the Territorial Army and the Officers Training Corps and was able to discuss in particular matters relating to the recently-announced expansion of the Territorial Army. My noble Friend was greatly impressed by the calibre and enthusiasm of those he met.
The units he visited were as follows:
- HQ 42 Infantry Brigade, Chester.
- 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Rangers, Chester.
- 2nd Battalion The Light Infantry, Altcar Ranges.
- 238 Squadron Royal Corps of Transport (Volunteers), Bootle.
- University Officers Training Corps, Liverpool.
- University Air Squadron, Liverpool.
- North West TAVR Association, Liverpool.
- 208 (Air Defence) Battery Royal Artillery (Volunteers), Liverpool.
