HC Deb 05 April 1984 vol 57 c625W
18. Mr. Andrew MacKay

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the latest manning levels in the inquiry branch of the Inland Revenue.

Mr. Moore

The inquiry branch is a specialised and long-established anti-evasion division dealing with serious fraud in relation to company profits.

Its manning levels are kept under review and no change is presently proposed. It is only a small part of the total Inland Revenue effort against tax evasion. Over the period from 1979 to 1988 the total number of Inland Revenue staff employed in investigation work will increase by 1,700.
