Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many export licences have been applied for and how many have been granted in respect of gas weapons, detection devices, decontamination kits and protective clothing listed in the answer of 20 March, Official Report, c. 383, in the last year for which figures are available.

Mr. Channon

One hundred and thirty-seven applications for export licences to over 60 countries were received in 1983 for goods falling within these headings, one of which was refused.
