§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list all capital projects costing over £100,000 and which are included in the total of civil defence expenditure in public expenditure White Papers for 1978–79 to 1986–87.
§ Mr. HurdProjects costing over £100,000 undertaken, or to be undertaken, during financial years 1978–79 to 1986–87 are as follows:
- (1) Development of the wartime broadcasting service (capital grants to the BBC).
- (2) Purchase of radiation detectors, identification and computation equipment.
- (3) Purchase of attack warning equipment.
- (4) Replacement of the United Kingdom Warning and Monitoring Organisation carrier warning system.
- (5) Replacement of speech and telegraph radio emergency communications network.
- (6) Construction of premises for wartime regional government.
- (7) Construction of premises for the United Kingdom Warning and Monitoring Organisation.
- (8) Purchase of mechanical handling equipment for use in connection with the Government's emergency food stockpile.
- (9) Changes in level of Government's emergency food stockpile.
- (10) Capital grants to secure due functioning of British Telecommunications undertakings in the event of attack.
