Mr. Lewis Stevens

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will name the chairman and members of the reconstituted Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work.

Mr. John Patten

Miss Joan Cooper, CB, has agreed to act as chairman of the new Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work for an initial period from 1 April. Miss Cooper was director of the social work service of the Department of Health and Social Security from 1971 to 1976 and has been honorary visiting research fellow, University of Sussex since 1978.

The 25 members will be:
