§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Secretary of State for Transport what is his estimate of the growth in the number and size of lorries in the United Kingdom over the next 10 years.
§ Mrs. ChalkerThe growth in lorry numbers will depend on growth in the economy generally. Total numbers are expected to decline slightly, by up to 5 per cent. However, the heavier lorries over 25 tonnes gvw are expected to increase by up to 25 per cent., while a decline of 10 to 15 per cent. is expected in the numbers of lighter vehicles (3½ to 25 tonnes gvw).
