HC Deb 04 April 1984 vol 57 c537W
Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is his estimate of the growth in the number and size of lorries in the United Kingdom over the next 10 years.

Mrs. Chalker

The growth in lorry numbers will depend on growth in the economy generally. Total numbers are expected to decline slightly, by up to 5 per cent. However, the heavier lorries over 25 tonnes gvw are expected to increase by up to 25 per cent., while a decline of 10 to 15 per cent. is expected in the numbers of lighter vehicles (3½ to 25 tonnes gvw).
