§ Mr. McCrindleasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will state the position with regard to life assurance tax relief of those whose policy documentation had not been completed by midnight 13 March but who had submitted a proposal form to their life assurance companies before that time and where medical evidence was awaited.
§ Mr. Moore[pursuant to his reply, 22 March 1984, c. 531My right hon. Friend announced in his Budget statement that life assurance premium relief would be withdrawn from policies in respect of insurances made after midnight on 13 March 1984. The question whether an insurance was made before that time is a matter of contract law. Where an insurance company had received a proposal of insurance before Budget day and was awaiting medical evidence before deciding whether to accept such a proposal, no contract could have been made by 13 March 1984.
