HC Deb 04 April 1984 vol 57 c549W
Mr. Robert Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on what date the presently available films were made for use on nationwide television to inform the population of what civil defence action to take in an emergency; and whether plans exist to provide an improved and updated version.

Mr. Hurd

These films were made in 1976 and are intended to supplement the advice given in "Protect and Survive" which is being revised. New versions of the films will be made when that revision is complete.

Mr. Robert Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when current instructional films to illustrate the events following a nuclear explosion for use at the Civil Defence college were introduced; and what plans exist to update such films.

Mr. Hurd

Films and other instructional aids have long been in use at the Civil Defence College as background material for training courses involving the situation after nuclear attack. New "Protect and Survive" films will be ready before the end of 1985 and will be used by the college.
