HC Deb 04 April 1984 vol 57 c585W
Mr. Alexander

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many ministerial approvals under section 2(1) of the Agricultural Holdings (Notices to Quit) Act 1976 have been made; whether he monitors the working of that section; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Fenner

I assume my hon. Friend is referring to consents to notices to quit agricultural holdings given by agricultural land tribunals under section 2(1) of the Agricultural Holdings (Notices to Quit) Act 1977. Between 7 April 1978 when the Act came into force and 31 December 1983, 83 such consents have been given.

The working of this section of the Act is, indeed, closely monitored. We are satisfied that it enables ALTs to reach a fair decision on whether a landlord's notice to quit which has been contested by an agricultural tenant should take effect.
