HC Deb 03 April 1984 vol 57 c435W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Energy how many subsidence claims have been lodged in each coal mining district in England and Wales at the latest date for which figures are available; and what is his estimate of the sum required to satisfy 65 per cent. of the claims.

Mr. Giles Shaw

Whilst these are matters for the National Coal Board I understand that the number of claims received in 1982–83 was as follows:

Number
Scottish Area 105
North East Area 381
North Yorkshire Area 1,919
Doncaster Area 175
Barnsley Area 3,000
South Yorkshire Area 1,400
North Derbyshire Area 4,545
North Nottinghamshire Area 8,200
South Nottinghamshire Area 5,063
South Midlands Area 342
Western Area 1,580
South Wales Area 258
Total 23,761

The proportion of claims which will lead to payments will vary from district to district.
