HC Deb 03 April 1984 vol 57 c446W
Mr. Terlezki

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he intends to bring forward proposals for standardising film censorship throughout the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

My right hon. and learned Friend has no plans to change the present arrangements.

Mr. Terlezki

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the latest figures about films that have been commercially-distributed throughout the United Kingdom that have subsequently been held by the courts to be obscene when distributed as videos.

Mr. Mellor

The available statistics on convictions under section 2 of the Obscene Publication Act 1959 do not contain this information. I am aware of reports that in one recent case there were successful proceedings under the 1959 Act in respect of material which, it is claimed, had been classified for the cinema.
