HC Deb 03 April 1984 vol 57 cc515-6W
Mr. Greenway

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will consider taking steps to limit the number of experiments on animals in schools and other educational establishments; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Brooke

The content of courses in schools and in institutions of further and higher education and the teaching methods to be used are properly matters for local decision. I believe that teachers, lecturers and research workers are sensitive to the ethical issues involved and that all reasonable steps are taken to ensure that the use of animals is restricted to a level consistent with the achievement of necessary scientific and educational aims.
