HC Deb 03 April 1984 vol 57 cc468-9W
Mr. Michael Forsyth

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will indicate the reasons for the delay in determining the line of the Dunblane bypass beyond the summer of 1983.

Mr. Ancram

It has been necessary to complete a traffic survey and to commission consultants to carry out a study of the engineering, economic and environmental characteristics of alternative lines, so as to provide a basis for choice.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the surveys carried out by his Department and Cnetral regional council in respect of the Dunblane bypass since 1972; and what were the costs of each one.

Mr. Ancram

My Department instructed the Central regional council to carry out a feasibility study into the bypass in 1977, which cost approximately £11,000. A further sum of £50,000 for a site investigation and a traffic study has been allocated to the regional council since February 1981.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give details of estimated costs for each of the proposed lines of the Dunblane bypass for each year since 1972.

Mr. Ancram

Since 1972 the construction costs of possible routes for a bypass of Dunblane have been estimated in 1979 and again (using revised design standards) in 1983. Details of the estimated costs are as follows:

1979 £ million 1983 £ million
a. (western) 4.183 3.308
b. (western) 4.269 3.357
c. (western) 4.599 3.286
d. (western) 4.622 3.326
e. (eastern) 9.546 4.353
f. (eastern) 9.693 4.445

In addition, two other variations on possible eastern routes were estimated at £7.026 million and £7.029 million in 1983.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations his Department has had to extend the speed limits in Dunblane on the A9; and what response he has given.
