Mr. Dormand

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list the countries from which coal was imported in 1983 together with the tonnage from each of those countries.

Mr. Channon

4.4 million tonnes of coal were imported, which represents 4 per cent. of the United Kingdom's requirements in 1983. The principal countries from which imports were consigned were as follows:
