HC Deb 02 April 1984 vol 57 cc427-8W
Dr. Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has any proposals to end urban programme funding and partnership and programme authority schemes; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jenkin

I have no such proposals. However, as part of my Department's regular examination of all its programmes, a small team working within the inner cities directorate is currently carrying out an urban policy and programme review. The urban programme is an innovative one which has grown rapidly in recent years, and it is an appropriate time to look carefully at it. The review will aim to clarify the objectives of the urban programme in England and examine how effectively they are being achieved, and will consider its relationship with other programmes.
