HC Deb 02 April 1984 vol 57 c398W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Prime Minister if she will dismiss the hon. and learned Member for Ribble Valley (Mr. Waddington) from his post as Minister of State, Home Office, in view of his statement in the Standing Committee on the Data Protection Bill [Lords] that there were circumstances in which it is acceptable for the police to break the law.

The Prime Minister

No. The hon. Gentleman's question does not quote accurately my hon. and learned Friend's remark. My hon. and learned Friend has emphasised in a letter to the hon. Gentleman the context of the words he used. The police must always comply with the law.
