HC Deb 02 April 1984 vol 57 c384W
Mr. Canavan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will list the protection orders for which application has been made under the Freshwater and Salmon Fisheries (Scotland) Act 1976, and, in each case. the names and addresses of the applicants, the terms of the application, whether the application has been granted and under what conditions.

Mr. John MacKay

Formal proposals for protection orders in terms of the 1976 Act have been published in respect of four areas. Following compliance with the statutory procedures the Secretary of State was satisfied that the conditions on access etc. laid down in the Act had been met and protection orders for initial periods of three years were made. These are listed below: The Rivers Tweed and Eye Protection Order 1980 (renewed by the Rivers Tweed and Eye Protection (Renewa) Order 1983). The Upper Spey and Associated Waters Protection Order 1982. The River Tummel Catchment Area Protection Order 1983. The River Lunan Catchment Area Protection Order 1983.

Detailed proposals on access to waters within the relevant catchment area were submitted by proprietors and occupiers of waters—67 in the case of the Tweed, 23 in the Upper Spey etc., 29 in the river Tummel and two in the river Lunan. If the hon. Member will indicate which additional specific information he is seeking, my right hon. and noble Friend will write to him.
