HC Deb 02 April 1984 vol 57 c369W
Mr. Dover

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why there are plans for the number of civil servants in his Department to be increased from 2,377 at 1 January to 3,455 at 1 April.

Mr. Hayhoe

There are no plans for an increase in the number of civil servants in the Treasury. The figure of 2,377 on 1 January 1984 excludes staff working for the Civil Service Catering Organisation, whereas the figure of 3,455 on 1 April 1988 includes these staff.

The comparable figures for Treasury, including CISCO, are 3,707 at 1 January 1984 reducing to 3,455 at 1 April 1988, a reduction of 252 posts or of 6.8 per cent.
