§ Mr. Fallonasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will seek to ensure that a member of the Territorial Army is not liable to be made redundant by his employer as a result of attendance at annual camp.
§ Mr. StanleyI do not believe this is necessary. Happily, the vast majority of employers are sympathetic towards releasing employees for training with the Territorial Army. However, a member of the Territorial Army might risk dismissal if he takes time off work without his employer's consent in order to attend annual camp. In such circumstances the Territorial Army member may be able to seek redress through an industrial tribunal under the terms of the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978, depending upon the individual circumstances.
§ Mr. Fallonasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will seek to ensure that a member of the Territorial Army does not become liable to expulsion from his trade union as a result of attendance at annual camp.
§ Mr. StanleyI am not aware of any instances of Territoral Army members being expelled from their union because of attendance at annual camp. If my hon. Friend has details, I will be glad to consider them.
