§ Mr. Strawasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what is the change in percentage terms in local authority public expenditure 1983–84 provision over 1982–83 outturn, in:(a) cash, (b) cost and (c) volume terms.
§ Mr. Peter Rees[pursuant to his reply, 17 November 1983, c. 509]: Provision for local authority RSG-relevant current expenditure in 1983–84 represents a 3¼ per cent. increase in cash over 1982–83 estimated outturn, after taking account of the reduction in National Insurance Surcharge payments between the two years. Using the GDP deflator this represents a cost terms reduction of just under 2 per cent. Provision is no longer made in volume terms.
