§ Mr. StanleyI have today placed a copy of this report in the Library. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment and I are glad to express the Government's appreciation of the steering group's work. The military use of parts of Dartmoor remains a contentious issue, and the steering group provides an important forum in which the interested parties may seek, as far as practicable, to reconcile the needs of the armed forces with those of conservation. My right hon. Friend and I will continue to examine whether there are ways the Government may assist to this end.
