Mr. Leighton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) how many dwellings in the London borough of Newham were either unfit, lacked at least one basic amenity or were in serious disrepair in each five years starting from 1953;

(2) what was the change in (a) the population (b) the number of dwellings and (c) the number of households in the London borough of Newham for each five years since 1953; and what was the number on housing waiting lists for each five years over the same period.

Figures for the London borough of Newham, which was constituted on 1 April 1965, are not available in the form requested. The Department does not collect information on council housing waiting lists. Available data are as follows:
