§ Mr. Hirstasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the cost of additional policing required throughout England and Wales during the week commencing 13 November to maintain public order in the face of demonstrations against the deployment of cruise missiles.
§ Mr. HurdIt will cost a disproportionate amount to ask every chief officer of police to provide an answer. I have, however, asked the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis and the chief constable of Thames Valley police for information on demonstrations in their respective areas, and will reply when it is available.
