§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeAt 30 June 1983 the East Hertfordshire health authority employed 1,930 whole-time equivalent staff, excluding medical and dental staff to whom figures are not available for individual districts. This corresponds to some 0.7 per cent. of the population of the health district compared to an England average of 1.6 per cent. This difference arises mainly because a considerable proportion of the NHS services for east Hertfordshire are provided by neighbouring health authorities.
