HC Deb 24 November 1983 vol 49 c304W
Mr. Randall

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what direct and tangible savings would accrue from the closure of the Torry research station, Humber laboratories, Hull, and the transfer of its activities to Aberdeen.

Mr. Jopling

In the Rayner report of MAFF fisheries research and development, the scrutineers estimated that at 1980–81 prices such a transfer would result in savings of £100,333 per annum and once-only savings of £6,300, offset by once-only costs of £136,000 and £8,000 per annum if the Property Services Agency is unable to find a buyer or sub-lessee for the Humber laboratory buildings. The precise level of savings would, however, depend on a number of factors, including whether it would be necessary to take on additional support at the Tony research station, Aberdeen following a transfer to mere of the scientific staff currently based at the Humber laboratory.
