§ Mr. Proctorasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the recent meetings between the hon. Member for Edinburgh, Pentlands (Mr. Rifkind) and South African Government Ministers were useful; whether he plans any new initiatives in British foreign policy towards Southern Africa as a result of these meetings; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. RifkindThe meetings I had with South African Ministers were useful. We believe in the value of such exchanges with the South African Government as with other Governments. The problems of the region are such that our policy towards Southern Africa is always under review and we are ready to take new initiatives when they can be helpful.
