HC Deb 24 November 1983 vol 49 cc240-1W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of Wales how many school leavers in each of the travel-to-work areas in Wales have found employment other than through the various training schemes for school leavers; if he will express the figures as a percentage of the school leavers involved; and how such figures compare with the United Kingdom average.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

Detailed information on all school leavers in Wales is not available in the form requested. However, of the 16-year-olds who left school in Wales this year and whose present situation was known to the careers service, just over 5,000 or 24 per cent. found employment outside the youth training scheme at 18 October 1983. Comparable figures are not available on a national basis.
