HC Deb 24 November 1983 vol 49 cc262-3W
Mr. Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the number of placements to date in Leicestershire, including Rutland, under the community programme; what is the sum allocated for this purpose in 1983–84; how much has so far been spent; how many vacant places currently exist; and what efforts are being made to fill those places.

Mr. Peter Morrison

At the end of October 1983, 1,054 places of the target of 1,525 filled places for Leicestershire and Rutland had been filled. A further 300 places had been approved on projects where the job opportunities are, as yet, unfilled. Support available under the community programme is allocated to areas in terms of filled places and not by cash limits. Information is not available about the number of vacancies currently on offer, but they are advertised in jobcentres and in most cases are quickly filled.
