§ Sir Hugh Rossiasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will consider accepting applications for section 64 grants from voluntary organisations operating on a regional as well as a national basis in view of the Government's intentions to abolish the metropolitan counties and the Greater London council which have been a source of funding for regional activities.
§ Mr. Newton"Streamlining the Cities" (Cmnd. 9063) recognises that there could be problems for voluntary organisations that have looked to the GLC or metropolitan county councils for grants. The Home Office voluntary services unit will, as promised, shortly be consulting local authority and voluntary sector interests before Ministers decide whether action may be necessary, for instance to facilitate collective arrangements for the making of grants by borough and district councils.
