At 13 October 1983, the latest date for which information is available, the number of unemployed school or student leavers—defined as those who have not entered employment since completing full-time education—residing in the area covered by the Dundee jobcentre and careers office, and claiming unemployment benefit, was 2,202, of whom 1,096 were under 18 years of age.
