§ Mr. Masonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if there have been any more outbreaks of whirling disease in Scottish fish farms; whether the disease has been eradicated in the two farms subject to a notifiable disease order; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. John MacKayThe infective agents of whirling disease were found in three trout farms in Scotland in 1983; the most recent in May. In each case the fish farmer has taken remedial action and tests will be made over the 339W next few months to establish whether this has been successful. Meantime the fish farms remain subject to Infected Area Orders.
