§ Mr. John PattenThe financing of ileostomy and colostomy appliance development is primarily a matter for the industry. The Ileostomy Association, which has close contact with the industry and doctors and nurses and to which the Department has given financial support, funds some research.
The stomacare nursing forum of the Royal College of Nursing is co-operating with the Department in establishing a national trials procedure for ostomy appliances which will lead to improved screening of products. The cost of the trials during the financial years 1983–84 and 1984–85 is estimated to be £9,000 and will be met by the Department.
