§ Dr. David Clarkasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many young people left school in South Shields in the summer and of those how many (a) entered employment, (b) joined the youth training scheme and (c) are currently unemployed.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonIt is estimated that 1,575 16-year-olds were eligible to leave school in South Shields in the summer. Of those whose whereabouts were known to the careers service on 2 November, 160 had entered employment and 850 had joined the youth training scheme. 60 are currently unemployed.
