HC Deb 04 November 1983 vol 47 cc471-2W
Mr. Park

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will eliminate the advertising of vacancies at jobcentres at less than the legal minimum rates of pay.

Mr. Winnick

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what steps are taken to prevent jobcentres dealing with vacancies when the wages offered are below the legal minimum; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Morrison

Instructions to jobcentre staff already make it clear that vacancies should not be displayed where it appears that a wages order is likely to be violated. Staff are required to seek advice from the wages inspectorate if they have any reason to believe that the rate quoted is below the statutory minimum. Methods of keeping jobcentre staff up to date with wages council requirements are kept under review.
