§ Mr. Raffanasked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he has received a report from the review group on mental illness services in Dyfed.
§ Mr. Wyn RobertsI received the third report of the review group at the beginning of September. The report provides a short up-dating assessment of the progress made by the statutory authorities in developing services for mentally ill people in Dyfed in the period since the preparation of the group's previous report. My reply to the chairman indicates that I welcome the group's view that the momentum of progress is being sustained and that the authorities have responded positively to the group's advice and recommendations. The review group's next report will be a more detailed analysis of the extent of improvements in all aspects of mental illness services. I have emphasised that in receiving this next appraisal Ministers will be anxious to see how far the authorities' work in restructuring the service has succeeded in securing improvements in the quality of life of people receiving care in hospital and in the community.
As with the review group's previous reports, I am placing a copy of the chairman's letter and my reply in the Library of the House.
